Derogatory Pig

Bass plugins, cloned from the metal up

Four characterful effects for Apple Silicon Macs — an envelope filter, an octave machine, a silicon fuzz and a reverse-octave reverb. Some are modelled from the classic circuits. Two are measured, control by control, from one-off hardware that exists in exactly one enclosure. All of them run as Audio Unit, VST3 and standalone.

No menus. Just knobs and a groove.

Envelope filter · stretchin’ out since the ’70s

Jellikins

The envelope filter your bass has been asking for. The original's mode switch, melted into one continuously sweepable LP–BP–HP morph — round and vocal to thin and percussive on a single knob. The jelly dances when you play; the logo glows brighter the harder you dig.

  • Continuous LP–BP–HP filter morph on one knob
  • Up and down sweep on a proper rocker switch
  • Soft-clip drive with pre/post envelope detection

Octave machine · in the Japanese brown-box tradition

Sledgehammer

Two legendary octave circuits in one walnut box. A genuine flip-flop divider sub — the brown-box circuit, gargle and all — and an octave-up that is mathematically incapable of going out of tune. Open the Toolbox and the pedal physically extends to reveal the up-voice's workshop.

  • A real flip-flop divider sub (glitches included — they're a feature)
  • Analytic-signal octave-up: perfectly in tune, zero latency
  • The Toolbox: Character, Gate, Boost, Sat & Sat Shape

Silicon fuzz · cloned from one-off hardware

Ice Age

A woolly-mammoth-sized silicon fuzz, measured control-by-control from a custom build that exists in one enclosure. Smoother than its forefathers, with all of its low end intact — there is no high-pass anywhere in the path. The Z-In knob goes from polite to feral.

  • Zero high-pass in the fuzz path — your low end arrives whole
  • Two-stage silicon clipping, smooth and never fizzy
  • Z-In: measured 13 dB → 6 dB crest collapse on one knob

Reverse octave delay → reverb · the flagship

Ethereal

Two instruments in series. An octave-up reverse delay — reversed and an octave up in a single mechanical move, fully polyphonic — feeding a reverb cloned from a one-of-a-kind hardware unit, measurement by measurement. Subtle at one end; a pitched, self-oscillating drone machine at the other.

  • Reverse-at-double-speed shimmer that climbs an octave per repeat
  • The reverb is a measured clone — drone pitch, decay law and all
  • CLEAN / DIRTY loop rocker: the faithful clone, or its evil twin

The method

Cloned by measurement, not vibes.

Two of these plugins began life as physical hardware — custom builds, one of a kind. We didn't model them from memory. We recorded each unit at documented knob settings, analysed the spectra, crest factor and decay in Python, and fitted the DSP to the numbers until the plot matched. Where ears and measurements disagreed, more recordings settled it.
